Project Pixelz – stage 2
Oh look, paint on the wall!
Things will go faster from now on. Expect to see more soon.
Light Tracer
To continue my preparations I needed a light tracer. Since this isn't a standard household tool I had laying around, I had to improvise. Being a typical geek I have a large collection of gadgets that might be suitable for the job.
After some trail and error only one prevailed, my iPad2. With little effort, and adjustments (maxing out the brightness, and open an emtpy page in Safari) I was ready to get to work!
Warning this feature significantly reduces your iPad's battery life !
Pixelz !
Shame on me, its been a while since I last posted something here.
Time to change that, and kick some new life in Project Pixelz!
For this project I wanted to create a cool 8bit image to put on my wall.
I decided to use only 4 colours to make the image come to life (black, dark grey, light grey, white).
Since I am no Photoshop master, the limited amount of colours were a bit of a problem. I could pixelate the image with the pixelate filter, but the end result was rendered in multiple shades of black.
After looking, and asking around I found the perfect how to. It seems the solution to my problem was fairly simple.
The indexed colour mode enabled me to choose the amount of colours I wanted to use. In the gallery below you can see the source image, and the desired result.
Post-it war
Inspired by Post-it war we decided to give it a go at our own office.
A bit of preparation on my desktop, and 15 minutes of work later Mini Mario was born!
Pukkelpop 2011 …
Lan-party
No updates on the project this weekend! I am attending a friends lanparty.
Too few hours of sleep, a bucket of coffee later it's time to game on !
Paint!
All the preparations are done, and now we can start with the next part of the project.
Since you can't paint a wall without paint I went to the Brico store in Lier.
Armed with my camera, and a tripod I entered the store. Some of the employees got a bit suspicious, and wondered what I was up to. Most of them were staring at me, but one curious employee was following me. (I might as well been a bit paranoid) I took a criss cross path trough the store and I managed to shake off the one that was following me.
Now I could choose the paint of my liking, and have a little stop motion fun :p.
I only made a short stop motion film because most of the other customers began acting strange, and scared when they saw my tripod, and camera.
Project Pixelz – stage 1
One day I woke up and decided it was time to do something about the current paint job of my bedroom. Apparently the previous occupant had a thing for feint yellow. Repainting it in another plain colour would not suffice this time.
I grabbed a coffee and sat down in front of the largest wall in the room and began the thinking process. The first thing that came to mind was also the winning idea. I would create an enormous grid of 2 by 2 cm squares, and use that to create a pixelated image. What I'm going to paint on the wall is still a secret for now, but you can see the project progress as I post more stuff here.
To give you a better look at what I'm doing, I made a time lapse with my digital camera. Since my camera does not allow me to take photo's at a set interval, I cheated and made photos with the 10 second delay button, and stuck them together with a small program called Photolapse.
Because I got the time lapse idea a few hours in to the project, the video starts with me roughly in the middle.
A lot of hours , 4 brownies, and 2 pencils later, all the vertical lines are done :
To see the actual lines view the video in 720p - full screen.
